To further promote and encourage Person County high school graduates to pursue post-secondary education, Zeke and Pam Smith have created two scholarships
highlighting the alma maters of each.
These scholarships are available to students who are U.S. citizens,
residents of Person County, and are graduating from any Person County private or public high school, qualified home school authorized by the NC Division of Non-Public Education,
or a NC Free Public Residential high school.
The Zeke and Pam Smith Wolves and Pirates Forever Scholarship Fund provides two $1,000 awards annually.

Clarence L. "Zeke" Smith received both BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering from NC State University (NCSU). Additionally, he served on the faculty of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NCSU, retiring after 32 years of service, and having been named
Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor. The Wolf Award is a $1,000 award available to Person County high school graduates who plan to attend NC State University, with priority given to those students interested in enrolling in the NCSU College of Engineering. Pam Smith graduated from East Carolina University (ECU) with her BS degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Wake County Public School system for 30 years, achieving National Board Teacher Certification, and was selected to serve on the Selection Committee for the Disney's American Teacher Awards program.
