The Merle S. and Jean H. Solomon Scholarship

The Merle S. and Jean H. Solomon Scholarship  was established in 1995 to encourage Person County students who have shown a high degree of ability and interest in a vocational or technical field to continue their education after high school.   
 This endowment scholarship provides students with up to a maximum of $1500 per year, and may be renewable for a second year if the recipients meet certain conditions after his/her first year of postsecondary education.  T
he Solomons established this scholarship to “help people who work with their hands.”  
solomon scholarship criteria
  • Student must be entering a vocational or technical program of study at a Community College, a 2-year or a 4-year institution of higher learning, or a recognized trade school specializing in teaching students a trade or vocational education program.
  • Student must be a citizen and resident of Person County, NC for 12 months prior to applying for scholarship.
  • Evidence of financial need shall not be considered.
  • Renewable a second year of study if scholarship committee deems that student’s progress justifies a second year of study.
