Establishing a Scholarship with PCEF

Grant and Scholarship Funds

Setting up a scholarship to honor a life, a time in one’s life, or to show the value of education can easily be accomplished.  Establishing a memorial or scholarship fund in honor or memory of a loved-one to provide support for a particular area of interest.  The Person County Educational Foundation is happy to facilitate gifts of stock, real and/or personal property, IRAs and/or other retirement accounts, life insurance, etc.

Our endowment is made up of a merged pool of invested funds that allow donors to provide scholarships to students and grants to teachers and staff. The endowment's principal is never spent, only the interest is used to support scholarships and grants. Your legacy guarantees that teachers, students and our schools will reap the value of your gift for many generations to come.

Scholarship and Grant Funders are given the opportunity to meet their recipients at the annual Donors Reception, an annual event bringing donors and recipients together.

Gifts of $10,000 or more can be placed in individually named endowment funds and carry specific donor instructions. Annually, endowment earnings will be allocated to each named account according to the account's proportionate share of the total asset pool (pooled income approach). For purposes of establishing annual scholarship amounts, donors are encouraged to plan for grants of no more than 5% of the principal balance. For example, a $10,000 donation would fund a yearly scholarship of $500. The minimum amount required to set up an endowed scholarship is $10,000.
