Sanford “Sandy” Moore – Scholarship - Impacting Others

Sandy was an amazing, loving, funny man. He was a good husband, friend, and great father that we could always depend on. He was always there for our daughter and spent lots of quality time with her, always providing her lots of guidance and encouragement. Sandy was the backbone of our family by being a good provider. He was a hardworking man who sacrificed a lot for his family by traveling away from home with his work. He was very good at planning for the future and wanted to make sure that we were well taken care. Saving for the future was very important to him and he made that a top priority. He handled all external matters and made sure we were protected and safe in every way. We miss him each and every day and trust in God that we will be with him again someday. He would want the recipient of this Award to be a motivated, confident, responsible person who strives and gives their all in reaching for their goals in life.

My dad was a fascinating, strong, hardworking man with such a humorous, outgoing personality that I really loved and looked up to as an inspiration throughout my life. He was a very fun person to be around and go on adventures with, whether it be biking, canoeing, or just taking a road trip. He was always my biggest supporter in anything I did, such as sports and especially in school, always encouraging me to do my best and work hard to achieve anything. When I received my first college acceptance letter, just the look on his face told me he was so proud. It was the happiest I’ve ever seen him, and that made me happy. I always strived to make my dad proud, and still do today. He would want the recipient of this Award to do the same, to put in the hard work and strive to accomplish anything they want to do in life, to make goals for the future and set out to achieve them in any way.

My brother, Sandy, and I lost our father at an early age and even though I was a couple of years older, Sandy was always considered the “man” of the family.  Sandy carried this trait into his own family when he married and became a father.  I saw my brother become an excellent role model for his daughter, Katie, through the dedication of serving our country in the armed forces and working his way up to become an auditor for Coke.  Sandy always had a strong work ethic and expected the same from others.  He was always there for me and our mother when we needed a shoulder to lean on.  He will be missed, but his memory will live on!

My best friend, Sandy, was someone I had gotten to know in 7th Grade in junior high school back in 1976.  Sandy was extremely humorous, which I guess is why he and I got along so well. Throughout our friendship, Sandy and I seemed to follow each other’s path through life.  Whether it was at school, on the weekends, or when we moved to Charlotte after finishing our education. That was after Sandy completed his service to our Great Country.  I always admired Sandy’s dedication to hard work, and willingness to take on any sacrifice to ensure the ones around him were being taken care for.  Sandy loved his Mom, Ms. Ruby Moore, deeply. That love and respect he had for his mother was something I had always respected. And Sandy’s love for life is an everlasting characteristic that I will remember for a lifetime. I know Sandy would want the recipient of this Award to use it to help move forward in life, and take the opportunity to give back to others to make the world a more loving place.
